Experian unlocks unlimited soft pulls so lenders can recheck credit without another profile fee

Original headline: “Experian expands Power Profile Plus, adds unlimited soft pulls” — HousingWire, Oct 13, 2026

HousingWire reports that Experian enhanced Power Profile Plus for Mortgage so lenders can start with a full Experian credit profile and VantageScore 4.0 through a soft inquiry, then request unlimited eligible follow-up soft inquiries during application and qualification without another Experian credit-profile charge. Lenders can still add FICO scores for separate score fees, and when a borrower is ready they can move to a hard inquiry at standard hard-pull pricing. Experian tied the update to FHFA expanding VantageScore 4.0 to all approved Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lenders, and said VantageScore 4.0 is available as a standalone mortgage origination score for 99 cents or at no cost in 2026 when bundled with FICO Score 2 through Experian's Score Choice Bundle.

Our take (opinion & analysis, not reporting)

For buyer agents: a soft-pull prequal from a lender using Power Profile Plus can mean fewer hard hits while the LO rechecks the file, but it still is not a full underwrite — ask which score model (VantageScore 4.0 vs FICO) and whether unlimited soft follow-ups are actually on for that shop. Note the bureau tool and score model in your CRM next to the preapproval so rate-lock talk stays accurate. If a client is credit-sensitive, confirm with the LO when a hard pull will happen before you push them to shop multiple lenders the same week.
