Listing-fraud alarm: SmartMLS rolls out Property Shield alerts for 20,000+ Connecticut agents
Original headline: “SERHANT launches AI avatar; PLACE acquires mortgage tech firm” — Real Estate News, Oct 9, 2026
Property Shield is partnering with SmartMLS to scan the open web for ads that reuse active listings' addresses, photos and details — for example, a home for sale on the MLS showing up elsewhere as a rental at a different price. Agents get an alert, and if they confirm fraud, Property Shield starts the takedown; the service is slated for mid-October at no extra cost to members.
Our take (opinion & analysis, not reporting)
Rental scams built on your listing photos are a real seller-trust problem — if your MLS doesn't offer monitoring like this yet, it's worth asking for. It is an MLS-level feature, so there is nothing to buy; just ask.
